The Fort Madison shop, located inside the Iowa State Penitentiary, produces textile products including coats, jeans, pillows and mattresses. The shop employs about 10-15 incarcerated individuals and two IPI staff.
The Fort Madison shop operates in a 50,000 square foot Lean designed shop located in the new Iowa State Penitentiary. Previously at the old Iowa State Penitentiary, the shop was located in the original Industries buildings built in 1922 with additions in 1932.
Fort Madison also provides an inmate workforce to the Great River Regional Waste Authority (GRRWA). The work crew consists of approximately eight incarcerated individuals and one staff.
