IPI (Iowa Prison Industries) recently produced and installed custom conference room tables and sideboards at Beardshear Hall at Iowa State University.
The large conference table installed in the building's main conference room is 194"w x 98"d and seats fourteen people. This large of a table had to be manufactured in four sections and assembled on-site. The matching smaller table, 96"w x 42"d is located in the ISU's President's private office and seats six to eight people for smaller meetings. The tables utilize a special finish to prevent damage and increase their longevity. Finishing out the project are several matching sideboards. Additional project photos can viewed on IPI's Project Photos page.
While IPI offers furniture design services at no charge, ISU's new conference furniture was designed by ISU's Facilities, Planning and Management department under the direction of Lola Van Wyk. The tables include reclaimed wood from trees removed from the ISU campus.
The tables were manufactured in IPI's Custom Wood shop located at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. Custom woodworking projects such as this provide IPI's incarcerated employees with excellent experience and skills that will transfer to the streets upon release.
ISU and IPI are very pleased with the quality of the finished furniture, and IPI looks forward to working with ISU on future projects.
