In the words of New York writer, Terri Marshall, “The holiday season is a perfect time to reflect on our blessings and seek out ways to make life better for those around us."
On a chilly December evening, Iowa Prison Industries partnered with a great organization, Meals from the Heartland, for a special holiday service project. IPI was feeling the holiday spirit, and decided to do something give back to the community outside of the workplace. This was the first time IPI had volunteered as a management team.
The event took place on December 7. IPI managers, board members and family joined together at Meals from the Heartland to pack nearly 5,000 meals of rice, soy protein, vitamins, minerals and dried vegetables. These packaged meals were shipped to children and families in developing nations around the world.
Meals from the Heartland is a nonprofit organization in Iowa made up of volunteers who package meals for delivery. Since 2008, Meals from the Heartland has provided over 83 million meals to hungry people in Iowa and around the world.
IPI appreciates Meals from the Heartland for giving us the opportunity to become closer as an organization through this service project. We had a lot of fun and hope that holiday service projects will become a new tradition for our company. It is really special to know that the food we packaged at Meals from the Heartland will feed so many people this holiday season.
