IPI’s latest modular office system installation at Iowa City Community School District’s administrative offices was also one of the largest of our new Legion Modular System line. The installed project includes 41 workstations plus 2 reception stations.
Project planning started last spring with IPI and our vendor partner OEI, Inc., working through various office layout options with ICCSD staff. Once a design was chosen, a demo cubicle was installed on-site to ensure the plan would function well for staff. Each workstation consists of a sit-to-stand table, a fixed worksurface, overhead storage, tackboards, and a mobile filing cabinet. The panels are 5’ tall with an additional 16” glass section stacked on top to provide privacy and personal space for each employee.
This modular project provided 100s of hours of training for the incarcerated women working in the Mitchellville Panels & Seating division. Clerks utilize skills such as order entry, purchase requisitions, setting up part numbers and issuing work orders. Production workers inventory the raw materials, apply fabric to the modular panels, and prepare the orders for delivery. These skills will be useful in numerous career paths upon release for these individuals.
Due to COVID-19, IPI was unable to have our typical installation crew of incarcerated men on-site; instead, we put together a team of the Moving & Installation staff, sales representatives, and vendor partner staff to install this large project. But we had another curveball thrown into the mix as installation began on August 10, 2020, the day the surprise derecho moved through Iowa. The storm knocked out power to the building, but knowing time was of the essence, the install team continued to work via flashlight for several days to stay on schedule. The project will definitely be an installation to remember!
IPI would like to thank all the ICCSD Facilities Management staff involved in this project. From initial product, layout, and color selection through the final installation, everyone at ICCSD was dedicated to ensuring this project was successful in providing staff functional, modern workspaces.
