It's no secret that vehicles are expensive these days, especially when it comes to company fleet vehicles that rack up mileage quickly. Fortunately, this month IPI was able to purchase three "new" vehicles through the Federal Surplus program for Showroom staff members at a great value.
The Federal Surplus Property Agency's purpose is to make equipment and property that is no longer needed by the Federal Government available to eligible organizations in Iowa. Oftentimes this property comes in the form of used vehicles, which was the case in IPI's recent purchase. IPI was able to purchase a total of three vehicles:
• 2017 Chevrolet Malibu (25,523 miles) - $9,500
• 2016 Jeep Cherokee (58,705 miles) - $6,500
• 2017 Ford Escape (80,089 miles) - $3,500
Sara Schnotala, IPI's ERP Specialist, was able to upgrade her van to the 2017 Ford Escape. "His name is Zippy," she said, revealing she names all of her vehicles. "It has a lower profile than my previous vehicle which makes it more conducive for my needs. Plus, there's still enough space to be able to haul a few things back from the shops if needed."
All in all, IPI paid around $20,000 for the three vehicles, plus freight cost and some minor title costs. If these vehicles were to be bought new, the total would come out to over $75,000. We're glad to have been able to save money by utilizing the Federal Surplus program and get our hard-working staff back on the road with better vehicles.
